More Than a Clean Home: Caring for Our Community Through Cancer Awareness

October is a month filled with pink ribbons, meaningful conversations, and reminders to prioritize our health. As we recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month and honor everyone whose lives have been touched by cancer, we at T.L.C. Home Services want to shine a light on something especially close to our hearts: the power of showing up for others when they need it most.

At T.L.C., we believe that what we do goes far beyond cleaning homes. It’s about caring for people, supporting our community, and finding ways to make life a little easier for the families we serve. One of the most meaningful ways we put that belief into action is through our partnership with Cleaning for a Reason.

A Clean Home Can Make a World of Difference

A cancer diagnosis can turn someone’s world upside down. Between appointments, treatments, recovery, exhaustion, and the emotional weight that comes with a diagnosis, everyday responsibilities can quickly become overwhelming.

Something as routine as keeping up with household cleaning can suddenly feel like an impossible task.

That’s where Cleaning for a Reason comes in.

Cleaning for a Reason is a nonprofit organization that partners with residential cleaning companies across the United States and Canada to provide free home cleaning services to people battling cancer. Their mission is simple but powerful: to ease the burden of cleaning so patients and their families can focus on what matters most — their health, their loved ones, and their time together.

Eligible patients who are matched with a cleaning partner receive two free home cleanings, one per month for two months. These services offer more than a tidy space. They provide relief, comfort, and one less thing to worry about during an incredibly challenging time.

Why This Partnership Means So Much to TLC 💗

When we partnered with Cleaning for a Reason in 2022, it felt like a natural extension of who we are as a company.

As a woman-owned business built on care, compassion, and community, we have always believed that helping others doesn’t have to come with a price tag.

Since beginning our partnership, T.L.C. Home Services has donated home cleanings to local cancer patients, helping ease the burden on families right here in our own community. In 2025, we celebrated three years of partnership after donating cleanings to 38 local cancer patients, representing $15,245 in services. We were also honored to be recognized as a Top 100 Partner nationally in both 2023 and 2024.

Those numbers mean so much more to us than statistics. Behind every cleaning is a person navigating one of life’s most difficult challenges. There are families trying to maintain a sense of normalcy, caregivers doing everything they can to help, and individuals who deserve the chance to focus on their health without worrying about the housework waiting for them at home.

Being able to take one thing off their plates is a privilege we never take for granted.

Because sometimes, caring for someone means giving them the space to focus on caring for themselves.

One of the most important things we can do is make sure people know help is available.

Through our partnership with Cleaning for a Reason, T.L.C. Home Services provides donated cleanings to eligible cancer patients in our local service area.

If you or someone you love is undergoing cancer treatment, recovering from cancer surgery, or receiving hospice care, we encourage you to explore the program and see if you qualify.

Here’s how you can help:

• Spread the word. Share Cleaning for a Reason’s website with friends, family members, healthcare professionals, and anyone who may know a family facing a cancer diagnosis.
• Help someone apply. Applications can be submitted by patients themselves or by a caregiver, family member, or friend, with the patient’s permission.
• Make a donation. Financial contributions help Cleaning for a Reason continue its mission and connect more patients with cleaning services.
• Give someone a little extra TLC. Whether it’s a meal, a phone call, an errand, or simply being there to listen, small acts of kindness matter.
